New puppy: SOPHIE

Hi!  My name is Sophie and I am just about to turn 1 year old.  I would really love a new family to share my birthday cake with!

My mom is a very busy professional and is looking to put me in a home where someone (or an entire family) would have the time to play and teach me some rules.  I am a beautiful (see photos) Irish Setter who would love a family with kids or even another dog or two, as I am ready, willing, and able to have some fun.  I would also like to have someone teach me some ground rules on behaving well as I have some anxiety when my current mom is busy at work.  However, I am sure that with a good pack leader I will follow along well and pick up the rules quick.  I am almost as intellegent as I am a beautiful young lady.  All my human neighbors love me, and there are two boy dogs next door, Monchis and Whiskey (a Sachi alum), that have crushes on me.

I am up to date on my shots and have been spayed, although I didn't much like the "cone of shame" they put around my neck while I was healing.

Some of the things I enjoy doing are going for a walk, riding in the car, and chewing on toys and bones.  I also love playing with other dogs and kids, so I am very social young lady.

If you are feeling up to the challenge of my boundless energy and unconditional love, please give the nice people at Sachi a call, and then come over for a visit! I would sure love to jump all over you and give you big doggie kisses!!

New pooch: Meet SOPHIE

Sophie is barely one year old and calls herself an Irish Setter. She is lovely with human kids and plays nice with canine friends. More to come ...

FRED & ETHYL

Fred & Ethyl are back on the market. Unfortunately the puppies got into a fight over food on the first day in their new home, and the family gave them back. We are puzzled by it because they lived with other dogs and have NEVER fought !

They are now in a foster home and will be observed to see what was going on.

We like to keep them together and start taking applications again.

Sammy

Sachi Animal Rescue with all of its volunteers, supporters and doggies want to thank Sammy's parents, Amy & Scott, for adopting this special boy, for showing him a life he never had, and for being there for him when he crossed over. We are crying with you!

HOLIDAY PET SAFETY GUIDE

HOLIDAY PET SAFETY GUIDE
Helpful Tips from Los Angeles Animal Services

The holiday season is a time for colorful decorations and delicious foods to share with family and friends. With a few helpful tips from Los Angeles Animal Services, you can include your furry family members in your holiday planning and still be sure that your pets stay safe and enjoy this special time of year, too!

Bulbs, Tinsel, Ribbons and Wrapping Paper:

Pets may be drawn to holiday decoration that can cause them harm. Glass bulbs may be shiny and attractive but they are potentially harmful if shattered and eaten. Even things as harmless looking as tinsel, ribbons and wrapping paper can create a serious digestive problem when swallowed.

Candles can cause burns and fires. Never leave lighted candles unattended or within reach of your pet. Also try to keep tablecloths and table runners from hanging too low to the ground, tempting happy dogs to grab an end and pull!

Ornamental plants are a great way to dress up the house during the holidays but pet owners should be aware that many of these common plants can cause gastrointestinal upset and, if enough plant material is eaten, seizures, coma or even death. To be safe, place plants out of reach and monitor your pet’s interest in them. Check the plants for any signs of chewing or missing leaves. If your pet starts vomiting, has diarrhea or abdominal pain, excessive drooling, tremors or seizures – consult your veterinarian immediately.

Lighting and Electrical Cords:

If you are doing any special decorating that involves lights and electrical cords, you may be adding more intrigue for the inquisitive dog or cat. If you suspect that your pet has chewed an electrical cord, monitor his mouth for burns and watch for any difficulty breathing. If any symptoms develop, consult your veterinarian right away.

Try not to leave exposed cords where the pup or kitten will be playing. You can cover them using regular PVC pipe from the hardware store or plastic casing from computer or household supply stores. There are products available at pet supply stores, such as Bitter Apple, to spray on cords to discourage chewing by making them taste bad.   If you are going out or unable to supervise your pet, unplug any electrical cords accessible in the pet’s area.
Kittens and some dogs are climbers, so lamps are not necessarily off limits to the more inquisitive and are potentially hazardous.  Replace burned out light bulbs right away. If you don’t have a bulb, leave the burned out bulb in place temporarily or unplug the lamp. The light socket is electrically charged and dangerous on a lamp that is plugged into power and does not have a light bulb.

You know your pet best, so you can anticipate how they will react to holiday visitors. Having a quiet space available, away from commotion with water, food and toys will help some pets be more comfortable.  Using a pet gate to separate them from the main foot traffic or having them stay at a friend’s house during a party may be best for them and for others.

The holiday and party foods we enjoy cooking and eating can be a problem for your pet. Tell your guests the food rules for your pets. Rich, spicy, fatty or food your pet is not accustomed to eating can cause problems ranging from a stomach upset to severe pancreatitis.  Pets with serious digestive problems often require hospitalization for treatment.

Don’t leave candy out. Chocolate can be fatal to animals, especially cats and small dogs. Alcoholic beverages are also toxic to pets.

Uncooked meat, poultry, fish and bones are hazardous. But, you can cook and strain these items into a tasty “Holiday Broth” that makes a great treat to pour over regular kibble.

Leo

NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE

Leo is a Boxer boy you will fall in love with right away. We certainly did!

Not only is he a good looking boy but he is also well mannered with his caretakers as well as his canine friends. In his previous home he watched over a couple of kids supervised by an older Boxer lady. Unfortunately we don't have any pictures to prove how good he is with the little humans.

He likes hikes and playtime in the yard but was very sad when Annie, his girlfriend, moved away with her new family. Those two were playing non-stop. When he loves someone, person or doggie, he goes all the way out.

We are hoping to place this special big boy in a loving home where he gets enough exercise to keep him stimulated as well as structured to get the best out of him. If you have already a dog - well, even better! You have kids? Leo is a FREE babysitter. What are you waiting for? He is not going to be available for long. Afterall Leo is gem!

BEAR is adopted!

We are super thrilled this evening! "BEAR" the 7-yr old Boxer found himself a forever home where he will receive the special treatment for the rest of his life! A big THANK YOU to the family that open their hearts, and all involved in his rescue. YOU ARE ALL SO VERY AWESOME!

Courtesy Posting: BAILEY

Hello – my name is Bailey. I am a healthy, young Boxer mix. My original owner who I lived with the first two years of my life was not able to properly care for me.  He worked long hours & lived with someone who would not let me in the house.  I was tied up outside all day and left outside most nights as well.  I got very little exercise and was lonely all day.  I had no training at all.  After getting off to a rough start, things turned around for me when a family rescued me.  I have come a long way in the past several months.  I am now crate trained, housetrained, walk on a leash without pulling, and love to run next to you on a leash while going for a bike ride.  I also no longer have the separation anxiety I once had.  I have been enjoying a good life with lots of love, attention and daily exercise.  I have lots of energy and I would love to be in a home with a leader who will give me lots of exercise and structure. I am social with other dogs, but have never been around cats.  I am spayed and up to date on all my shots and I am very patient and tolerant of children, but older sturdy children would be best (over 7 years old).  I am smart, loving and love to please - I just need an assertive person to show me the way.

Bear is a 7-y/o Male Boxer that needs rehoming! Military family has had him since he was a puppy -- he's traveled all around with them. They have recent orders taking them to a place that will not allow dogs. He is wonderful with children, other dogs, has all shots, general obedience, a 65-pound lap dog! Time is limited ... they are shipping out soon. They have some friends who are willing to take "Bear" on a temporary basis until he finds a more permanent home....

Courtesy posting: EMACIATED BOXER GIRL

This nameless Boxer girl was found roaming the streets. She was extremely emaciated, filthy and scared to death.
It took her rescuers a while to coax her to trust them enough to get in the car.
She was cleaned up and taken to a vet for a general check -up. The vet determend that she is between 1 -2 years young. He also told the rescuers that she was already burdened with a litter while being a baby herself. She is still not spayed.
Miss Skinny is in a foster home with two other dogs. Being scared and starved, she has shown some hesitation towards the other dogs when she is around food.

This puppy is NOT a Sachi Animal Rescue dog - only a courtesy posting. If you are interested in meeting her, please contact Carrie, her foster mommy, directly (760) 628-4010

Happy Holidays from SACHI ANIMAL RESCUE

A HOMELESS DOGS CHRISTMAS PRAYER

Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town, every shelter is full - we are lost, but not found.

Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare, we hope every minute that someone will care. They’ll come to adopt us and give us the call, “Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!!” But now we sit here and think of the days… we were treated so fondly - we had cute baby ways...
