new SAR dog - meet "ROGAN"

Rogan is an adorable flashy fawn male puppy. The shelter estimated Rogan to be 8 months old but we think he is closer to 1 year. He is a sweetie who posed just perfectly for his pictures. Most dogs move around, don't look at the camera, bark at the camera, but Rogan simply sat still and looked stunning. Rogan came into the shelter as a stray. We can't imagine such a beautiful and sweet creature being left at the shelter, his owners not even looking for him. We haven't had a chance to fully evaluate him but will this week. He still needs to be neutered and updated on shots.

new SAR dog - meet "KIANNA"

Kianna is a beautiful flashy fawn female about 4 years old. She is tiny and petite at 39 lbs. She is a little skinny from being in a shelter but even at a healthier weight she will be small and only around 43 lbs. She just arrived from San Bernardino and we haven't had a chance to fully evaluate her yet. She is sweet and great with people. We'll need to check her out with other dogs, cats and kids. Kianna is adorable!

new SAR dog - meet "SCOOTER"

Scooter is Blake's brother, and step brother to the Camarillo Fab 5. He is looks almost exactly like Blake, except he is 1 lb heavier. Scooter is a golden retriever/boxer mix, about 2 years old. He is a very nice boy.
His personality is almost identical to Blake. Both are good with other dogs, but not outgoing with them. Scooter is not head shy. Scooter needs to be evaluated with kids and cats. He also needs to be neutered and updated on all shots.

new SAR dog - meet "BLAKE"

Blake is one of the step-brothers of the infamous Fab 5 from the Camarillo shelter. The owner was a breeder that got caught with too many dogs on his property. He had to give up all but 5 of his dogs. The breeder kept all the females so he could continue his breeding business. Blake is a golden retriever/boxer mix. Blake even has a docked tail. He is a very nice boy. He is good with other dogs, but not outgoing with them. He is a little hand shy around his head (generally that means that he has been hit in the head). Blake is estimated to be about 2 years old.

new SAR dog - meet "MAGGIE"

Miss Maggie came to us as an "owner turn-in". He owners had adopted her from a shelter back in June as a companion for their other dog. They are moving and are only allowed one dog in their new home. Poor Maggie was not going to be able to go to their new home. Maggie is not handling her situation well. Too many moves in too short of time. She bonded with her second family, and this family let her down just like the first one. Maggie was completely shut down when she came to the kennel. She wouldn't come out of her dog house. When she came out, she shook with fear. She is slowing starting to come out of her shell. She will come out of her dog house to see people she knows. She still shakes a bit, but it's getting better. We are taking it slow with Miss Maggie, letting her get comfortable at her own speed. Maggie is 7 years old, and still has lots of good years left. She is calm and well behaved. She deserves much better than she has been given. She needs a forever home that will love and cherish her for the rest of her life.

new SAR dog - meet "BUDDY'

This magnificent boy was kept in a wire cage 24/7 on the front porch of his house with no water or food. A good samaritan ( the one and only YOYO) started inquiring about him and finally reported the case as abuse to the South Central Animal shelter. Buddy from Crenshaw as he became known was removed from the property by animal control, held for evidence for a couple weeks and finally released for adoption... Well we all know what happens to the poor pitbull breed at animal shelters and Buddy's chances were slim to none to make it out alive... Until SAR's incredible friend and supporter Yoyo the wonder decided she could not let him down and stepped up once again to save his life. With the help of Sachi Animal Rescue, Buddy from Crenshaw now stands a chance at a fabulous new life. I expected this boy to show at the very least some issues as a result of his mistreatment. Buddy is the most amazing happy go lucky guy, full of love and endless kisses... And by the way he is good with other dogs as well. This is one little gem you don't want to pass up. Tomorrow is freedom day for Buddy from Crenshaw, I will be picking him up after the much needed neutering surgery. I have no doubt that this will be another happy ending story, more to come...

new SAR dog - meet "GUS 3"

Gus III was circled on FACEBOOK, he had pledges but nobody was able to take on a senior Boxer. We could not let them end his precious life at the shelter and pulled him today. He will have to see our vet first for medical evaluation. More as soon as he recovers from the trauma of being dumped by his family. Please stay tuned

new SAR dog - meet "EMMA LOU"

Emma Lou is a 6 mos. old brindle female Pocket Boxer with natural ears and tail.

Currently she weighs in at only 23 pounds but she is
going to fill out a little more over the next few months.

Emma loves other dogs, cats, and kids. She is a super snuggle bug, and everybody loves her.

She is a gem!

new SAR dog - meet "GEORGES"

Georges is an adorable 7 month old male flashy fawn boxer who came to us as part of the "Bakersfield Bunch". He is absolutely adorable. This is one wiggle butt extraordinaire!! He is very sweet and great with people. He is pretty well behaved for a 7 month old. Georges actually sat for me so I could take pictures! (Maybe he was a supermodel in a previous life.) He was very sick with kennel cough at the shelter but he is recovering nicely (still has some buggies in his pictures). He'll be neutered next week and updated on shots. He will also be fully evaluated with other dogs (he will test great!), kids, and cats. Get your applications in right away on Georges. He's going to find a HOME quick.

new SAR dog - meet "DUKE"

Duke ll is a very handsome young boy who escaped from his home and got hit by a car. Thankfully, Duke did not suffer any serious or permanent damage. The white mark on his nose is from the abrasion he received in his altercation with the car. He went back home, decided to escape again, then was found by animal control. Animal control feared that the Dukester could get hit by another car and not be so lucky the second time around. Animal control did the right thing and would not let Duke go home with his owner. We don't know if there was no fence, a whole in the fence, too short of fence, or if Duke is an escape artist looking for adventure. Duke is young, between 1 1/2 and 2 years old. He is a relatively small male boxer about 50lbs. He is great with people. He needs to be fully evaluated to see how he is with kids, other dogs and cats. He also needs to updated on shots and neutered

new SAR dog - meet "GUS II"

Gus was just pulled from a high-kill shelter. We want to give him a couple of days to adjust. Once we evaluate him, we will update this description of him.

SAR's "BOBBA" is adopted!

Hi Raphaele,

Is Bubba's name spelled "Bubba" or "Bobba"? The website says Bobba, but I always pronounce it Bubba. I want to get him a new name tag with my phone number on it for his collar. Even though he better never escape again!!!

If I didn't already tell you this, I had decided to save 3 of Popeye's toys to finally rest in his Popeye "treat" jar with his ashes. 1. His famous Flea 2. His blue boot 3. The chicken you gave him on that Friday when you came over, because that was the last toy that Popeye carried with him.
Until last night I hadn't yet opened the box from Dr. Galea with Popeye's ashes to be able to put them into the jar. I hadn't had the nerve.

Here's what happened last night: Because I hadn't opened the box of ashes yet I also hadn't put the toys in Popeye's jar.. The 3 toys had been on top of the crate. Believe it or not Bobba had not moved them. Then last night I was washing dishes, looked up, & saw Bobba playing with Popeye's Flea. Of course, I burst into tears. I took the Flea & gave Bobba the other toy he has been playing with every night, brought the Flea & the boot & the chicken to Popeye's treat jar where I wanted to put the toys & the ashes. I opened the box from Dr. Galea. The plastic bag is labeled "Popeye", and it looks more like sand to me. The plastic bag, the Flea, & the boot all fit in Popeye's jar. The chicken didn't fit, so I put the chicken on top of the jar.

During all this of course I was crying. Bobba sat next to me & watched. I gave him different toys but he didn't want them. He just stared at me. When I walked away from Popeye's paraphenalia & tried to play with Bobba with another toy, he went back into the kitchen, sat down, stared at the chicken on top of Popeye's jar, & cried. I called Bobba over to the living room & tried playing with him again. He did the same thing- went to the kitchen, sat, stared at the chicken & Popeye's jar, & cried. Now I was crying not only because of Popeye but because if Popeye were here he would have gladly shared his Flea, chicken, or any other toy with Bobba (he never minded when we were walking & another dog took his toy out of his mouth), but I couldn't bear to let his Flea go to any dog except for Popeye. So I gave Bobba the chicken toy. HE LOVES THE CHICKEN TOY & WON'T STOP PLAYING WITH IT! Its almost as if Popeye left it for Bobba.
Bobba played with the chicken toy until we went to sleep. When he got up this morning, he started playing with the chicken. He has never played in the early morning hours before. Usually he plays with & chews toys after dinner only. Today he spent the morning playing with the chicken until I left for work. I know Popeye would want Bobba to play & have fun, and now my heart knows that he is leaving his legacy in another way, through his toys.

I hope you don't mind that Bobba is playing with the chicken you brought for Popeye. My heart knows that Popeye will always watch over all of us.

new SAR dog - meet "BLANCA"

Blanca is just a baby at about 7 months old. She is a beautiful and sweet white female with one blue eye and one brown eye. Like 20% of white boxers, Blanca is deaf. She is a good girl and she can be trained with hand commands. She loves human attention and gives the wiggle when she sees someone. She needs to be spayed and a full evaluation.

new SAR dog - meet "TEBOW"

Our Tebow is a superstar! He is good looking, talented, and is a lot more than just a great athlete. Tebow is about 2 years old, fawn with black mask. We got him from the shelter with kennel cough so we are treating him. As soon as he is well, he will be "snipped", micro chipped and updated on shots. We will also be giving him a full evaluation in the next couple weeks. You will need to get application in on Tebow before the Superbowl.

new SAR dog - meet "CLOONEY"

He is handsome, distinguished, with a little white/grey around the edge of face. He is striking and a large boxer. George Clooney could definitely be in the movies with his looks. He is a manly man, strong and stoic. He is also a ladies man, giving kisses to volunteer Jamie who petted him and talked to him sweetly. He is somewhat nervous and unsure at the kennel. I'm sure he just doesn't know what is happening to him. He probably spent the last 5 or 6 years in the same home, then something awful happened and he ended up at the shelter. He still needs a full evaluation, neuter, chip, and updated on shots.

new SAR dog - meet "TRIXIE"

Trixie is an adorable, tiny, fawn female with black mask. Trixie is a youngster at about 1 1/2 years. She is a doll! She has a very sweet, bubbly personality and is great with people. She is so happy and has that fun boxer wiggle when she sees anyone. She is sick with kennel cough so we have not evaluated her with other dogs yet, or children. Our guess is that she is going to be awesome!

new SAR dog - meet "PAISLEY"

Paisley is a cute brindle male with black mask. He is about 2 years old and has a natural tail that never stops waggin'. Paisley was on his last hour at a very high kill shelter but you'd never know it by his happy go lucky attitude. His wasn't taken very good care of in his 2 short years of life. He is a skinny boy with small scars from fly bites on his ears. We don't know if he was "dumped" or ran away from a lousy life. We are determined to find Paisley a great forever home, one that will care for him, and love and cherish him for the rest of his life.

new SAR dog - meet "BLANCA"

At only 6 month or so, little BLANCA had experienced trauma of the worst kind. Disregarded by a human she trusted, she was put in a high-kill shelter. The noise, the smells, the cold concrete ... she did not know what she has done wrong. Christy pulled her today from Baldwin Park shelter and has ensured her that her sad past was just a bad dream and from today on, the future will be bright. Blanca is a very pretty girl with her blue and brown eyes.

new nameless SAR dog

SAR's newest addition - still nameless but safe after Celeste picked her up from the Downey shelter. Check out her shelter photos:

new SAR dog - meet "COOPER"

Cooper is a fantastic dog! He is fawn with black mask about 2 years old. Cooper walks great on a leash, knows how to sit, stay, and shake. We think he has been housetrained or crate trained. He is good with all dogs, big and small. He has been cat tested, and he just ignors them. Coop is great with people. We haven't kid tested him yet but based on all his behaviors with us, he will do just fine. Get your applications in quick on this boy, he won't be around long!

new SAR dog - meet "DAPHNE"

We love Daphne! She is a stunning natural beauty (she has a full tail!) on the outside and totally a sweetheart on the inside. She is a flashy fawn with black mask. Shelter estimated her to be about 4 years old. She just recently had a litter of pups (wonder where they are) and still has some milk in her teets. Fortunately, this past litter will be her last. We will be getting her spayed, updated on all shots, and micro chipped. Daphne is great on a leash and great with people. We haven't tested her with other dogs yet, but we think she will pass this test with flying colors. Daphne is a calm, awesome dog.

new SAR dog - meet "SCARLETT"

Scarlett is an absolutely beautiful flashy fawn girl about 2 years old. This beauty just had pups and still has some milk in her teets. Some owner bred her, took her pups (probably sold them), and then didn't have any more use for her. So he dumps her at the shelter. Pretty sad. Well, Scarlett needs a home that will love and cherish her for the rest of her life. The great thing about Scarlett is that she holds no grudges. She is a happy fun loving girl. Scarlett came to us with kennel cough. She is being treated. When she gets better she will be spayed and fully evaluated.

new SAR dog - meet "ANNABELLE"

This is Annabelle. She is a very petite, cute, sweet fawn female with black mask. The shelter workers in Bakersfield were so happy we rescued her, she was one of their favorites and she was on the euthanasia list. She didn't show well in her kennel run. She was very timid and afraid, and thus didn't make a great first impression. She is a submissive female about 3 years old. She just wants a little attention and some belly rubs. When our volunteer, Jamie, took her for a walk today, Annabelle walked for a while. She decided she had enough walking, rolled over on her back, happily squirmed around in the grass, and waited to get her belly rubs. Poor Jamie ended carrying her part way back to the kennel because she just wanted to roll in the grass. Annabelle is a gal with simple needs.

new SAR dog - meet "JAMES DEAN"

No question about it...James Dean is a heartthrob! James Dean is a volunteer favorite because of his wiggly fun personality. He is also a lover. And who can resist that underbite and badly cropped ears. James Dean has had a tough life, but has an amazing zest for people and life. He has a number of cement scars on his legs and we found out he was "seized" from his owner. James is great with people and other dogs. We think that he is around 4 or 5 years old. He is more than just a pretty face.

new SAR dog - meet "JUSTIN"
